| WDM Legion Post 620th wins Iowa American Legion State Championship WDM Legion Post 620, comprised of Dowling Catholic players, won the Iowa American Legion State Championship on Sunday, May 13th. The games were held at Dowling Catholic's own George Cordaro Field. The team is 15-0 on the season and advances to the regional tournament held in Dickinson, North Dakota on August 9-13th. The team won the title game over Woodbury County on Sunday 11-7. Senior out fielder Nick Navin was named MVP of the tournament, hitting 2 home runs and going 4-5 in the title game. Andrew Clemen earned the win in relief, pitching 2 scoreless innings. Jake DeBondt, Scotty Tigner, Anthony Denkinger and Jon Wisnieski all contributed with 2 hits. On Saturday, WDM Post 630 defeated Sioux City 9-2 and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to defeat Dubuque County 6-5. Bobby LeWarne picked up the win against Sioux City and against Dubuque County, Joe Erickson pitched 3 innings, striking out 7 and only allowing 3 hits. Navin picked up the win in relief. Dowling Catholic has been participating in American Legion baseball for over 40 years. Congratulations!! |
